Dr. Jock Herron

Jock Herron is a former chairman of the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research, a former Senior Managing Director of Bankers Trust Company and the co-founder of several technology companies. He recently received a doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Design where his thesis was "Global Health and Design: Learning from Tanzania and Abbott Payson Usher". He also holds master degrees from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Lushen Wu

Lushen works at the intersection of software and global health, bringing 5+ years of technical development and management experience to Bienmoyo's mission of supporting healthcare systems.

As Bienmoyo's country director for Tanzania, Lushen currently oversees the mMaisha mHealth suite in deployments for maternal/neonatal health, Rheumatic Heart Disease screening and child health, Diabetes and HIV care management, and continuing medical education.

Prior to joining Bienmoyo Foundation in 2010 as a project manager, Lushen worked at Boston Consulting Group, IBM Research, Wyeth (Pfizer), as well as technology startups. Lushen received his Bachelors in Neurobiology and Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University.

Vikram Kumar

Vikram Sheel Kumar is a pioneer in the field of community based chronic disease management. He received a bachelor of science degree with honors in operations research from Columbia University. During his time at Columbia, he invented and patented a software tool to analyze multidimensional neuronal data.

In 2002 in the M.D. program at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Vikram started Dimagi, a solutions company specializing in clinical interfaces, health information systems, and mobile technologies to manage global disease.

In 2004, Vikram was named the MIT Technology Review's Humanitarian of the Year and one of the world's 100 top innovators. He is a Paul and Daisy Soros New American, a founding Fellow of Media Lab Asia and a member of the advisory board of the Global Emerging Technology Institute (GETI). In 2006 he was featured as one of 14 design visionaries by Metropolis Magazine.

Jeff Blander

Jeff Blander is the founder and president emeritus of Bienmoyo Foundation. He currently serves as Senior Advisor for Public Private Partnerships at Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC) at the U.S. Department of State.

Jeff Blander has over 15 years of experience in creating public private development partnerships & deploying and commercializing medical technologies in developed and developing countries. Jeff has held research appointments at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard School of Public Health as well as has been a lecturer in the Division of Health Science and Technology at Harvard Medical School and MIT for over a decade. In these roles Jeff has personally mentored over 100 graduate and undergraduate students on field projects in East Africa.

Previously, Jeff also served as a Volunteer Country Director for the Clinton Foundation in Jamaica in 2004 and was awarded NIH/Fogarty pre- and post- doctoral fellowships in global health and clinical research in Tanzania in 2005 and 2008. In 2010 Jeff was awarded the Olympus Emerging Education Leadership Award for his efforts. Jeff has also served as chair of the Technology Committee for the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MBC) and the Co-Leader for the Technology Innovation Working Group at the Harvard Initiative for Global Health.

Jeff received his Doctorate and Masters Degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health and his Bachelors of Science from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kaushik Ramaiya

Dr. Ramaiya (M.B.B.S., M. Med., Int. Med.) is Consultant Physician and Assistant Medical Administrator at Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Dr. Ramaiya also holds several other honorary appointments such as Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation, Hon. General Secretary of Tanzania Diabetes Association and member of the Board of the National Health Insurance Fund, Ministry of Health, Govt. of United Republic of Tanzania, and a member of the Medical Council of Tanganyika.

He has produced numerous publications on diabetes research and has implemented many initiatives and studies to put diabetes on the health agenda in Africa. Dr Ramaiya has been in the driver's seat and project responsible behind several WDF-funded projects in Tanzania.

Dr. Furaha August

Dr. Furaha August is an obstetrician/gynecologist working as a lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is also practicing obstetrician/gynecologist at the Muhimbili National Hospital, the largest hospital in Tanzania.

Dr. Furaha teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students on areas of maternal and reproductive health. He has supervised several students on field work activities in the area of maternal health. Dr. Furaha received his Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.

He is currently pursuing his doctorate degree in obstetric care at the Uppsala University, Sweden.

Lushen is also a member of Bienmoyo's U.S. Board of Directors.
